Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value for a lot of boot!!! Great for walking on hard surfaces these boots are well cushioned in the heel and absorb shock well. Also have saved my ankles more than a few times from going in directions they were not meant to go in.My son wears the same size boot at work so I buy 2 pairs at a time.I am always looking at boots but for the money nothing comes close and they last!!!This is my 5th pair by the way. This pair is 3yrs old and still working.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lasted forever My parents bought me a pair of these in Christmas of 2008, they have been my daily shoes since then and within the last several months I have finally worn down the tread enough to be problematic. That's over 9 years on one pair of shoes!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not so happy Been wearing these for a month and a half. The making of the boot isn't proportionate and yes I ordered the right size after trying them on at a department store. The toe area has too much up and down area although the width is correct. The tongue is short in material so you have to push it into the sides before tying. It states leather although I would call it pleather. I wanted to return but had already thrown the packaging away after a few days. All in all I would not purchase these again. I almost think I got a pair that shouldn't of passed quality control, anyways lesson learned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from buy, try, love, I have bought numerous pairs of this boot over the years and i love them! Just bought a pair of the winter boots and I hope they are as great as these! My hunting buddy bought a pair, he works in construction and has also fell in love with them. Comfortable and definitely water proof!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't last I bought these a year ago. I did not wear them everyday. They both developed splits in the leather in the same spot, one of them expanding into an L shape. I like the boots I hope they stand behind them, I have owned many pairs of hitech hikers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent tough shoes This will be the 4th pair of this shoe I've had, they are tough as all get out. They are very durable. I walk several miles every day, and I make them last well over a year. I highly recommend them!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Work Boots EVER! I am a welder by trade and work on cement 50+ hours a week and have worn these boots for six years now. I go through a pair of boots a year typically. These are one of the only boots I have found that I can wear my custom orthotics in without taking out the padding in the bottom. The leather is great and after of year of heavy wear they are still stiff and holding their shape. I have had much more expensive boots leather get weak on the sides after 5 months! I have two pairs, one for work and one for home for working outside. Them being waterproof is a very nice feature as well. I recommend these to anyone looking for boots and will keep wearing them as long as they make em. The customer service is stellar as well, I have had a few issues with grommets busting within the first month of wear and they replaced them, no questions asked. Hi-Tech is an awesome company.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, tough and yet comfortable boot. This will be my 7th or 8th pair. I was a Game Warden and these boots were the best. they are great because they have no mesh on the sides and resist Prickly Pear Cactus needles and other nasty spiny plants. Get a needle on the bottom of your feet once, you will go to these boots! I had my last pair for 8 years since I retired. I do not wear them as much and they finally gave up the ghost and wore a hole in the side.

Is there a steel shank along the sole inside the shoe

Asked by: Davis
Hello, the Altitude IV Waterproof does not feature a steel shank. The fork shank in the Altitude is lightweight and durable to ensure flexibility and stability. If you are looking specifically for a hiker with a steel shank, check out our Bandera Mid and Bandera Low. These boots offer a steel shank to provide trusted support and stability in every step.

Do the Altitude IV boots have a slip resistant bottom and can it withstand some chemicals?

Asked by: CMW69
The Altitude IV boots are not tested for slip resistance or protection against chemicals. However, Hi-Tec has work safety boots which are slip and oil resistant. The closest alternative to the Altitude IV would be the Altitude Pro 400 i WP CT or the Altitude Pro i WP CT. The key difference is that the Altitude Pro 400 has a 400g Thinsulate insulation to keep your feet warm.

I have an old pair of Hi-Tec boots (black), probably 20 years old which I love and have completely worn out. It appears they are the altitude IV's. Can barely read the tongue label which is: 9.5 8.5 42.5. To get the same fit, what would I order now?

Asked by: johnny100025
We recommend that you order the size you would normally order. If the pair you have now fits well, then stay with the size (9.5). The first number, (9.5), is the U.S. size.
