Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dri-Tec membrane makes these boots un-wearable I have been wearing different versions of the Altitude boot for several years. They are comfortable, fit well, and require almost no break in. The soles wear out fairly quickly, but with their low price I don't mind that. The problem is the Dri-Tec membrane. It is basically like wrapping your feet in Saran Wrap. My feet are always clammy and wet. When I take the boots off my socks are visibly wet. The Altitude used to come without the Dri-Tec membrane, but that version is no longer available. I won't buy this or any other boot with the Dri-Tec membrane. It's too bad, but Hi-Tec figured out a way to ruin a really good boot.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Quality not what it used to be : ( I've been wearing these hi-tec boots for a long long time, and have always been very happy with the comfort and durability. The last pair I bought though was disappointing and I can't even wear them they hurt my feet so much. The problem is that where my toes meet the inside of the boot there is no padding, only hard plastic. The pair I was going to replace them with had a lot of soft durable padding in the toe area. I didn't save the receipt so I couldn't return them. I contacted Hi tec but their customer service department never responded. I can't afford to buy another pair, so I'm still wearing the old pair Put your hand inside and if the toe region is hard, don't buy them.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from not the same boot.. This is my 4th pair of altitude IV, and this pair is different. The footbed is thinner, and boots feel broke down already after one month. I also bought the altitude V a couple months ago, thinking they would be better. Not so the V 's have less of a cushioning footbed. So now I have two pair of uncomfortable boots.Hitec what has changed with the IV ? Sorry but I have to move on to another brand, its to bad because the price on these boot's are good. But I have two pair of boots that are no good, when I could have bought one better pair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT I've had these boots for around 2 years and I have no more tread left, blown out one of the sides. I love these boots but its time to retire them. I've used them in all sorts of weather ranging from ice cold mud hot summer days. My boots have been up about 6 different mountains including half-dome. I used them for work on a tractor, welding, working for 10 hours straight in an almond orchard. I use them to hunt, and they protect my feet from falling objects such as wood logs. You won't go wrong with these!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Love Them I've been wearing these boots for 5 years. I go through 2 or 3 pairs a year in my tree removal business. They fit great when I buy them one size larger and are comfortable all day once I add gel insoles over the top of the existing insoles. I am on my feet in them 6 days a week, 15 or 16 hours a day in them. I wear the outside edges of the heels off walking on roofs and standing in my aerial lift basket. They have excellent traction. When the outside of the soles start to wear, the tops are still in fine condition and I clean them up and donate them. Our local Christian shoe dealer donates the used boots to overseas missions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable, supportive, warm & water-proof My husband and I bought matching boots for a hiking vacation in the wet, cold Lake District. I wore them for one hike prior which loosened up the boots a bit, but they didn't need much breaking in. In the Lakes, our boots kept our feet warm, dry and gave us sturdy walking comfort all week long. Back home, I wear them often, even when I'm not hiking because this boot's foot bed and ankle support keeps my legs feeling strong through the day. I can't speak for the durability, as we've only had them for four months. The only negative was that they are generously sized so we had to send them back for smaller sizes.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cheap sole materials didn't last a year I bought this boot thinking it would make a good work boot. I think from the first day I wore them the soles started to loose chunks of materials peel around the edges. The uppers seem to be good well made. These are less than a year old.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Boot Ever! I bought these boots 3 yrs ago. I wear them for hiking, but also any time I'm going to be on my feet for awhile. I have many problems with my feet, including bunions and heel spurs, and to date, these are the only boots that not only feel good on my feet and are extremely comfortable, but they're also made to last and unlike other shoes/boots I've worn, my back doesn't end up aching after a short period of time wearing them. After 3 years worth of hiking and walking all over in the them, there is just a light amount of wear on the sole and the rest of the boot is still 100% in tact.

Are they non slip

Asked by: Dcgg
I love these boots, but sometimes I work in a restaurant and anytime there is any liquid on the floor I slip. Everyone gets a good laugh and I have became an expert of staying upright, it's quite a sight. Outdoors I love hiking and these boots have never failed me, I haven't tried them on ice.

What is the method of water-proofing for this boot?

Asked by: Erika
The Altitude has the Dri-Tec waterproof membrane, which is a waterproof and breathable bootie inside the boot to keep your foot dry.

I have Altitude IV boots, size 13. On the tongue it says Altitude IV WP M. Is "M" the width? When I try to order on your web site and select size 13, it comes up with width as EEE; that does not seem correct.

Asked by: Doug
"M" stands for medium, which is the regular width. "EEE" stands for a wide width boot. The Altitude IV boots are out of stock in regular width in a size 13. We are not going to receive new inventory until April. If you are looking for an alternative, we do have the Altitude V in Dark Chocolate and in a "M" width, size 13. The key difference is in the upper. The Altitude IV has a suede nubuck upper, whereas the Altitude V is a polished calf leather.

My old boots are "altitude IV width M" .....I don't see that exact designation on your site. Is the width called "D".

Asked by: Pentti
A standard boot is an (M) width, which means medium. Medium can be shown as (M) or (D). The Altitude IV does come in wide. Wide shoes are designated by (EEE) or (W).

I have a pair of these exact boots but they're a size 6 in US. Do you still sell these in a size 6? They're perfect and I'd love to buy more.

Asked by: Daphne8
Unfortunately we no longer make the Altitude IV WP Dark Chocolate Med in a Men's size (6). However, we do have multiple pairs available in a Men's size (7).
